Company’s a-Comin’!
October 26, 2024For those who don’t know me very well, this is what I do when we have visitors who come to stay…
I mentioned in a previous post that, when we have company coming into town to stay with us at the Homestead, I send out a questionnaire in advance of their visit. I joke that it’s in poor form to cause one’s guests anaphylactic shock (which, I know, is no joke, especially this far from urgent care). Their responses to my dietary queries not only dictate the menu I prepare for their stay, but really make my life a lot easier in our remote environs, and serve to make for a most enjoyable visit overall (and no one succumbs to anaphylactic shock!).
Last week, we hosted a couple of dear friends with whom my husband went to college. Over the last 40+ years, we’ve all remained friends through our weddings, children, b’nai mitzvahs, children’s weddings, and grandchildren.
It was a delightful visit. All told, I cooked for a week, and was more than happy to do it. Our friends really enjoyed my preparations, although, admittedly, I found I needed to make several edits and improvements to a few of the dishes. Either way, they were quite gracious about the whole thing, it was a pleasure spending time together, and they said they look forward to returning, so I guess I haven’t scared them away!
And, while my laminated menus always elicit a chuckle, it’s just more of what I do. If you come to stay with us at the Homestead, you’ll get your own personally curated, laminated menu, too!
